Spencer Lake Resort and RV Park is located about 8 miles north of Shelton, Washington just off Highway 3 on Pickering Road. There is easy access from the entire Olympic Peninsula by car or from Seattle via the Bremerton ferry, then 35 minutes south on Highway 3 to Pickering Road. You may also reach Spencer Lake Resort by boat, seaplane, or helicopter.
This upscale resort is set in a scenic area surrounded by lakes, state parks, nearby shopping, gas stations, marine service and sales, and other important conveniences. Situated on Spencer Lake with 10 acres of picturesque grounds, the complex has over 275 feet of freshwater lake frontage with a boat ramp, boat and seaplane docking accommodations, 40 RV sites with hookups, an on-site Laundromat, and one of Mason County’s finest restaurants.

Spencer Lake Resort’s restaurant serves traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner favorites along with scrumptious deserts and hot and cold beverages. The lounge offers a fine selection of liquors as well as domestic and imported beer and wine. Live music is featured on Saturday evenings and karaoke is available several times each week.

The Resort’s amenities include the restaurant and lounge building, grounds, deck, and dock. We offer outside dining on the deck during summer months. During summer months the lakefront becomes quite busy with boaters, swimmers and people fishing. Spencer Lake Resort also offers free fishing from its dock.

Reservations are recommended on weekends during winter and every day during the summer. Our hours are as follows. Restaurant: 8 AM – 8 PM seven days a week. The lounge is open Sunday thru Thursday from 8 AM – 10 PM and Friday and Saturday from 8 AM – Midnight. We also offer the highest pay out for Pull Tab games allowed by the state.

Spencer Lake Resort History

Spencer Lake Resort was constructed in 1949 by Frank and Essie Gibler, and was originally called Gibler’s Cove Tavern. The building was a rectangular shaped log cabin, situated on the north shore of Spencer Lake, along Pickering Road.

Several owners later, during the 60’s and 70’s, the original building was added on to twice. It remained a tavern, serving beer and wine for on and off premises consumption and tavern food such as hamburgers, pizza, gizzards, French fries etc.

The name changed to Spencer Lake Tavern. Then with the addition of the RV Park, next door and across the street, John and Arlene Post, the most recent former owners, changed it once again. The name was now Spencer Lake Resort.

In September 1996, John received a class “H” liquor license to serve hard alcohol, beer and wine for on premises consumption. He also started to add a kitchen, with the capability to serve more then the traditional tavern food.

On April 1,1997 Spencer Lake Resort (which includes the restaurant and lounge building, grounds, deck, and dock) was purchased by the present owners, Fred and Debbi Jones. The kitchen was finished and on April 1,1997, Spencer Lake Resort opened as a full service family restaurant and lounge, serving traditional American food. By the end of the first week of business, the number of employees swelled from twelve to twenty four. Today Spencer Lake Resort employs twenty-four during the winter months and thirty-three during the summer.

On Wednesday, December 10, 1997 at 6:00 PM, with a full dining room and lounge, tragedy struck. A fire broke out and caused approximately $275,000.00 in damage. The building was reconstructed with additional dining and kitchen areas, as well as a new office being added. Just sixty-four days later, on February 12, 1998 at 12:00 noon the business reopened.

In 1999, the kitchen was enlarged again and in 2000 the old lounge was removed and replaced by a much larger one. The bar was dismantled and a new one installed in the new lounge. The area that housed the old bar was turned into additional dining area and a new waitress station and a new vestibule was also added.
