he White Oak River is one of the premier spots on the Crystal Coast for canoeing, kayaking
and boating. It is a black water river, approximately 40 mi long, running thru the coastal
plain of southeast North Carolina and emptying into the Atlantic Ocean.The White Oak River runs through a variety of habitats including swamps, hardwood forests, and salt marsh flats. A wide variety of wildlife can be found in and around the river and its smaller river feeders. These creeks provide safe havens for many small animals such as, fish, snakes, frogs and many more animal as well as plant life. Along the river, there are reports of bald cypress trees over one thousand years of age. Many alligators can be found along the river as well.
The River boarders The Croatan Forest, which is known for its pine forests, salt estuaries, bogs, and wildlife. The forest is great for hiking, camping, hunting, trail biking, and all-terrain vehicles. The surrounding rivers, inland lakes, and creeks allow for swimming, fishing, boating, and canoeing.
